Three commercial models, one campus. The choice decides IP, tooling and how fast you can test a style.
OEM, ODM and private label get used as if they were the same sentence. They are not. The difference decides who owns the last, who pays for tooling, and what you can still sell if you change factories later.
Steed Sports runs all three as the international partner of Jiangxi BaiYing Group, responsible for its international business. The campus is one place: 16 intelligent lines, 68 stitching lines, a 156-person R&D centre, more than 4,000 SKUs a year. The commercial model is what you choose.
OEM means you supply the tech pack, usually the last, and the colour direction. We quote materials, tooling and build, then run it. You keep tighter control of the silhouette and the IP. You also carry more of the development work. This is the right model when you have a designer, a confirmed last and a market that will wait for a proper sample.
ODM means you bring the market position, the price band and the end use. We develop styles with you and you select. Range appears faster because you are not inventing every pattern from a blank page. The trade-off is that the base construction may be shared with other programmes unless you convert the winner onto your own last and tooling.
Private label is the branding layer: logo, insole print, box, hangtag, sometimes a colourway, on a construction that is already tooled. It is the fastest way to get a pair with your name on it. It is not the same as owning the mould. If your plan is a brand that must survive a factory change, budget for OEM tooling on the styles that sell.
They do not pick one model forever. They run ODM or private label to find out what the market will pay for, then convert the winners into OEM programmes with their own last and their own packing spec. That sequence keeps cash in the test and IP in the reorder.
If a supplier tells you that “OEM, ODM and private label are all the same price and the same MOQ”, they are not quoting a programme. They are quoting a hope. MOQ is confirmed per style because a canvas court shoe and a carbon-plate runner do not share a line load.
A mutual NDA is signed before design files move. Client work is not shown in a public catalogue. Design files are access-restricted. We do not claim exclusive or segregated lines unless a written arrangement exists — and we will not invent one in a blog post.

The same three models apply to garments. ODM sportswear means you pick from a development library; OEM apparel means you bring the pattern; private label means the label is yours on a body we already run. Footwear and garments are quoted separately but can ship together, which is usually where the freight maths starts to work.
OEM, ODM or private label — send the brief. MOQ from 600 pairs per color (mixed sizes) for existing styles; 1,200 pairs per color for custom styles, and sampling is confirmed per style, in writing.
