Factory verification

How to verify a Chinese shoe factory before you wire money.

Four inspection routes, the documents that actually matter, and the first-week red flags. Written so you can use it on us. Start with the English credentials pack and the ISO scans, then book a video or visit.

The most expensive mistake in China footwear sourcing is not a high unit price. It is wiring a deposit to a company that cannot walk you onto a production line. This page is the checklist we would want if we were sitting on your side of the table.

Steed Sports is the international partner of Jiangxi BaiYing Group, responsible for its international business. Based in Guangzhou; manufacturing runs at Jiangxi BaiYing Group in Shicheng County, Ganzhou — a 473-mu campus (about 78 acres) with 480,000 m² of floor space, 16 intelligent production lines and 68 smart stitching lines. Those figures are the partner's published capacity, not a slogan we invented for this article.

What “verified” actually means

A website with product photos is not verification. A WeChat video of “a factory” is not verification unless you can recognise the same halls, the same hanging conveyor and the same campus you were shown on a map. Verification means you can connect four things: the legal entity you will pay, the plant that will cut and stitch, the people who will answer when something fails, and the documents your destination market requires.

If any one of those four is missing, you do not have a supplier. You have a mailbox.

Four ways to check a plant before you pay

We publish the same four routes on our factory tour because they are routine, not a special favour.

  • Live video walk-through. A scheduled call on WeChat, WhatsApp, Zoom or Teams. You stop the camera at any station — cutting, stitching, lasting, QC, packing — and ask for a closer look.
  • Third-party inspection. Access for SGS, BV, Intertek, TÜV or your own QC team, for a factory audit and later for pre-shipment inspection.
  • On-site visit. Fly in. Walk the line, sit in the sample room, read the paperwork in person.
  • Document pack under NDA. Business licence, capacity statement, material and finished-goods test reports, plus the certificates your market actually needs.

Pick the route that matches the stage you are at. A first conversation can start on video. A first container should not.

Is there a film I can watch first?

Yes. A 2-minute English campus film, shot on site at Jiangxi BaiYing Group, is on YouTube and on our homepage. A 100-second plant-floor cut is on the factory tour. Use the film to recognise the same campus on a later live walk-through. It is not a substitute for a scheduled tour or an on-site visit.

Documents that matter, and ones that do not

The manufacturing partner holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management-system certification, renewed 12 July 2024 and valid to 16 May 2027. That is a system certificate, not a product passport. Destination-market reports — chemical, physical, social-compliance — are shared under NDA for the market you name. We would rather send the file than list a logo we cannot show.

Ask who the certificate is issued to. If the name on the ISO file is not the plant you were shown, you are looking at a rented credential.

Red flags in the first week

  • An MOQ number in the first email, before anyone has seen your design or your last.
  • No campus address, or an address that does not match the photos.
  • A request for 100% payment before sampling.
  • Stock images, or photos that cannot be matched to a live walk-through.
  • A story that the “factory is busy” every time you ask to visit.

None of those prove fraud on their own. Together they mean: slow down.

How to use what is already public on this site

Start with the factory page (six production stages, four verification routes), the photo library (42 photographs across eight areas), the virtual tour, and quality. Then send a brief to sales. A human replies within 12 working hours. Sampling time, MOQ and bulk lead time are confirmed per style after we see that brief — the MOQ floor is 600 pairs per color (mixed sizes) for existing styles (1,200 for custom styles), and we do not invent a number just to make the page rank.

If you want the model vocabulary first, read OEM vs ODM vs private label. If you are stuck on quantity, read what to expect on MOQ.

Most buyers who start out comparing Chinese shoe manufacturers end up asking for the same three things: the business licence, the audit report and the factory's own QC records. When you are verifying a Chinese shoe factory in China from overseas, ask for the report number rather than the PDF — a number can be checked against the issuing body, and a PDF cannot.
